I am a Northern UK based Scientific and Non-fiction illustrator and animator, with a specialism in medical illustration. Standing on the precipice of where the fields of art and science meet, I am highly passionate about making beautiful and accurate scientific visualisations.

2019

In 2019 I graduated from Falmouth University with a BA(Hons) in Illustration. With an interest in the scientific and anatomical fields, my final project consisted of a teaching booklet for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals to aid medical students and nurses in the understanding of the procedure involved in the Right Hemicolectomy. This project solidified my chosen pathway in medical illustration.

2020

Following graduation, I wanted to undertake a postgraduate course in Medical Art, however to do so I required some funding, and thus worked as Deep Clean and Infection control at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. While the job was not where my aspirations lied, I was able to access a variety of areas within the hospital, learning anatomy from posters and anatomical models in various departments, and spending my breaks in the library studying. It was useful to see the inner workings of clinical and surgical environments.

2022

In 2022 I graduated from the University of Dundee’s MSc in Medical Art program. Working with Dr Mountain, ENT Surgeon at Ninewells Hospital Dundee, my final dissertation project involved creating an interactive learning resource for healthcare design students, which outlined how the human sensory organs worked and how design could be utilised to benefit general human perception and disability of the sensory organs. This project won the Gabriel Donald Graphics Award at the 2023 IMI (Insititute of Medical Illustrators) conference.

2023

Following the MSc Medical Art course, I was selected for the 3-Month CAHID intership (Center for Anatomy and Human Identifacation) at the University of Dundee. Working alongside Dr McDougal and Dr Lamb at CAHID. I created a teaching resource on the Pupillary Light Reflex and Nerves of the Orbit, which resulted in both a 3D animation and labeled 3D model uploaded to the University’s online Sketchfab account. This project won Gold at the 2023 IMI conference, and was the topic of my New Voices Speech.

After the Internship with CAHID, I attained an internship position with the medical communications company AMICULUM, as a designer from early 2023 to early 2024.In this time I learned so much about the inner workings of medcomms companies, design experience and professional processes. I was also part of the team developing 3D idents an assets to advertise the 3D skills of the design team to potential clients.
